Understanding the needs of children looked after

This training course explores evidence that suggests that the experiences and needs of looked-after children and young people are not well understood by all the professionals who come into contact with them. This training aims to increase understanding of this diverse group of children and young people and their needs with a view to improving emotional health and wellbeing.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognise the needs of looked after children. Taking into account their emotional, educational and physical needs.

  • Recognise why looked after children may have different needs to children who are not looked after, and recognise some needs are the same.

  • Provide people with relevant information in order for them to look after the children in an effective manner.

  • Provide people with tools to help young people to develop appropriately
