Flexible Workforce Development Fund (FWDF) Funding

What is the Flexible Workforce Development Fund (FWDF)?

The Flexible Workforce Development Fund (FWDF) has been set up by the Scottish Funding Council to help businesses address skills gaps, by accessing training for their staff.

The FWDF is open both to UK Apprenticeship Levy paying employers and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Scotland.

Who is FWDF funding available for?

The funding is designed to help your workforce enhance their skills and increase your productivity. Funding is not only available for employees, but also for volunteers and stakeholders.

How much FWDF funding can I access?

The amount of funding depends on your business status and your individual needs.

As a guideline:

  • Apprenticeship Levy payer     £15,000

  • SME (non Levy payer)              £5,000

The benefits of training your staff

Nurturing, developing and retaining staff through effective training and development programmes is far more cost effective than recruiting ‘ready-made’ talent.  By providing effective learning and development opportunities, not only do you benefit from a skilled workforce, but you will also benefit from a more loyal workforce.

According to a LinkedIn Learning report 2022, twice as many companies excel at internal mobility retain employees for an average of 5.4 years, nearly twice as long as companies that struggle with it, where the average retention span is 2.9 years
